That is the question.

I’ve been producing the podcast for over two and a half years now (off and on). During that time it’s always continued to grow. Listener numbers have increased month after month, even when I wasn’t releasing any new podcasts. Now it’s time to produce another show and I find myself wondering once more if it’s worth it.

I’m not sure why, but I don’t find myself as excited as I used to be at this time of the month. Something seems to have been lost over the last couple of years. When I first started the podcast I had two aims.

1. Help unsigned musicians to reach a wider audience.

2. Introduce listeners to new music.

I think the podcast has achieved both of these aims. However, I get the feeling that the music industry has changed since I started the podcast, as have listener habits and the methods used by musicians to get their music heard. I receive far less submissions from musicians than I used to, probably because it’s so much easier to release your music now. Feedback from listeners has also dropped substantially.

Maybe I’ve lost my way slightly with the podcast. Maybe podcasts just aren’t as important as they used to be.

Either way I find myself asking the question, to podcast or not to podcast?

I’m not sure of the answer at the moment.
